FAQs

What differentiates TDK from other consulting companies? I’ve talked to numerous other consulting companies and they all say they are different than everyone else. How is TDK different?

Most companies in the St. Louis market are technology-staffing companies, meaning they will attempt to fill any technology related position needed by their clients regardless of skill set. We, however, specialize in those positions associated with web technology engagements where the consultant will:

  • Manage the project
  • Define the business requirements
  • Translate the business requirements into system requirements
  • Design, build and implement the required infrastructure
  • Design and build the application
  • Test and implement the application
  • Provide best practices assessments and training

Finally, the TDK difference is our management, their approach to clients, to staff, and to consultants.

Does TDK host events during the year where I might be able to meet other TDK consultants?

Since the majority of TDK employees work at client sites, one of our biggest challenges is building and maintaining the connection with our consultants.

TDK hosts a family picnic and a holiday party for all employees each year.  We also hold a variety of client and area specific events throughout the year to try to provide activities that work for everyone.

Why do consultants stay with TDK and refer their friends to TDK?

Consulting is a relationship business, pure and simple.  The daily interactions with our clients, consultants and candidates define who we are.

TDK prides itself on upfront communication throughout the process.  Setting realistic expectations upfront makes for successful relationships and successful consultants.

Additionally, TDK provides a "best of breed" compensation package with flexibility to allow the candidate to select the components that are most important to them.

If my contract comes to an end, what will TDK’s effort be to remarket me?

Because of our emphasis in the Technology and Management Services areas, our job board consistently contains job orders in these practices.  We have an excellent track record at remarketing consultants following successful completion of an assignment.

As soon as we are aware that a consultant has an outdate, we update the consultant on current opportunities and the outlook within our client base.  Open communication is the key to successful remarketing.

How does the TDK compensation plan work and what are the components?

TDK understands that our employees and candidates have diverse needs. We look to provide as much flexibility as possible in our compensation package to allow individuals to maximize those components that are most important to them.

Our full compensation package includes:

  • Hourly pay for every hour worked
  • Paid Time Off
  • Medical Insurance
  • Dental Insurance
  • Short-Term Disability
  • Long-Term Disability
  • Life Insurance (including ability to insure your dependents)
  • Flexible Spending Accounts
  • 401(k)

Employees have the opportunity to take the full package, or select certain components to maximize their hourly rate.

In the current economy, what is the outlook for IT professionals in this market?

The current recession has impacted everyone, no question. TDK has seen this impact in the form of lower bill rates  and a slight slowdown in job requirements from our clients.

That having been said, a strong need for talented IT professionals continues.  Patience and flexibility in compensation are necessary.

What are the types of projects and opportunities that TDK offers?

TDK's client base represents a wide variety of industries and ranges from small businesses to Fortune 100 firms.  This diversity allows our consultants to gain exposure to many different working environments and projects.  We also perform outsourced software development for clients, allowing consultants to build solutions in a focused development environment in our office.

At TDK, we focus on applying the right technology to solve business problems.  Recent examples of our consultants' assignments include:

  • Web application development and implementation
  • Web integration of an ERP application
  • Website development and SEO
  • Operation management system design and development
  • CRM enhancement and support
  • Project management for client implementation
  • Software testing and QA
How much experience does TDK’s staff possess?

We have access to a variety of consultants, ranging from the most senior (20+ years of experience) to entry-level.  This allows us to provide our clients with the level of expertise appropriate to their need.

What level of customer service can I expect from TDK?

At TDK, we believe that success in IT consulting begins and ends with communication.

  • Before we place our first consultant in your organization, we want to understand your environment, your team and your challenges. This information will help us make sure we provide the right person for your need, not just the right skillset.
  • After we've placed our staff with you, the follow-up continues to make sure your needs are being met (or exceeded). Our objective is to provide value to your organization, not just complete a transaction.
  • We also maintain consistent communication with our consultants.  Ensuring that expectations are consistent on both sides of the equation is critical.
  • If an issue should arise, we step in to understand the issue, and help implement a plan to get things back on track as quickly as possible.

In our project solution model, we work quickly with you to understand your business issue to ensure we're building the best technical solution possible.  Again, consistent communication throughout the design and development of your software is critical. Regular status reporting is provided to make sure we remain on the same page and deliver the expected solution in the expected timeframe, for the expected budget.

When you present a candidate to me, what steps have you taken to ensure this candidate is what I need?

Every candidate is screened by a recruiter to ensure an initial match to the specific job requirement. The recruiter also assesses the candidate's communication, image and fit for the client.

Following recruiter approval, every candidate is interviewed by one of the Practice Managers, depending on the specific skill area.  Our Practice Managers have strong IT backgrounds and experience to properly assess skill matches. We also utilize our senior consultants for more in-depth technical interviews.

References are also checked, including verification through our own contacts who may have interacted with a candidate at a previous place of employment.

What differentiates TDK from other consulting companies?

Many consulting firms have management with strong business and marketing knowledge without solid IT experience.  Other firms have management that is well versed in technology but have little business experience.  At TDK, our management has in-depth experience in both areas.  This enables TDK to deliver solutions that practically address the business needs through impactful technology.

TDK believes in open, direct communication with our clients, employees and candidates.  Setting proper expectations with all involved allows for the best possible outcome in the staffing process.

Can TDK help us with integrating separate disparate systems?

TDK consultants have a wide variety of technical skills, including the full complement of J2EE tools and .NET. We also interview candidates every day that increase the range of skills available to TDK.

Give us a solid understanding of the project you're facing, and TDK can staff a team (or augment yours) to craft your solution.

What industries does TDK serve and what types of services do you generally provide?

TDK has provided solutions for a number of industries including: financial services, healthcare, manufacturing, customer loyalty, specialty retail, software development, specialized steel, marketing & communications, telecommunications, and transportation.

Our strengths lie in Technology and Management Services, including Program and Project Management, Architecture, Analysis, Development, Testing, Administration, SEO, Web Analytics, and Usability. We provide services through either Staff Augmentation or outsourced Solution Delivery.
