Visual Designer

The Visual Designer is responsible for the look-and-feel of the application. More than just building a "pretty" interface, the designer must incorporate ease of use for the application user. Elements including text, forms, graphics, audio and video must all be evaluated for appropriateness in a particular design.

The Visual Designer may have development skills (HTML, Flash, etc) for rendering their design, or may create wireframes of the design for a development team to build.

Visual Design is a form of visual communication. Although the design of actual graphical objects is a key component of visual design, the broader goal of visual design is the creation of effective communication. That is not to say visual designers are chiefly responsible for the creation of the messages they communicate: they are not. However, they must understand the vision and objective of the message and employ their design methods to provide the vehicle for communication. As a result, the best visual designers will have strong graphic design, developmental, and communication skills. Visual designers work closely with usability specialists to ensure that the software is both aesthetically pleasing and functionally sound.
