Significant business growth resulted in the client’s need to evaluate the scalability of its systems and processes to maintain a competitive edge in the healthcare market as well as meet or exceed compliance requirements. The client offers specialized health solutions to the complex problems faced by state governments, managed care organizations, employers, unions, patients, healthcare providers and pharmaceutical companies.
Following its well-established software development methodologies that involve a thorough understanding of the business problem up front, TDK Technologies built a data environment using Hortonworks. This is an open source and enterprise-ready data platform that integrates with existing IT investments. Hortonworks allows companies to build and deploy Hadoop-based applications that help drive, support, and deliver business-centric, data-driven solutions.
TDK leveraged experienced senior technology team members with industry backgrounds in systems architecture, systems administration, and production readiness. Because of the numerous security and operational constraints required to support a fully HIPAA-compliant environment, an out-of-the-box implementation was not possible. A great deal of planning, preparation and diligence were needed to install a highly customized solution. Through a collaborative approach, the teams were able to build and test the cluster in complete compliance with the client’s security and system administration policies and best practices.
As part of the process, TDK’s team completed a detailed, system-based "playbook" for replicating the installation of the Hortonworks platform to the client’s production cluster and to further support business needs.
